How To Sneak Veggies Into A Family Favourite Meal

Children are usually fussy eaters, with veggies reluctantly or refusing to be eaten, which makes upholding a balanced diet often very difficult. At an early age, it is important for children to not only meet their nutritional requirements, but also get excited about delicious, healthy food. We recognise training their palates is a continuous and trying process. To help you get more nutrients and vitamins into your child’s diet, we have an easy recipe that sneaks veggies into one of the all-time family favourite meals without a trace.

What You Will Need:

  • 2 kg minced beef
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped or grated
  • 2 garlic cloves, grated
  • 2 medium zucchini, finely grated
  • 1 large carrot, finely grated
  • 1 bunch parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp ground paprika
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper

How to Do It:

  1. Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix them well – use your hands!
  2. Form into patties.
  3. Heat a frying pan or grill over medium heat, and cook them for 4 minutes each side.

This recipe will make plenty of patties so once you’ve cooked enough patties for your family, place the remaining in a re-sealable bag. You can either keep them in the fridge, if you plan on cooking them soon, or you can freeze them up to two months.
Bonny Babes Child Care Centres encourage children with opportunities to experience a healthy, balanced and nutritious menu through our provided daily meals by Kids Gourmet Food, and daily education program. We work with families to ensure we meet the nutritional needs of each child within the centre, so we encourage parents to keep up the good work in introducing veggies and fruits to the little ones’ diets.
